Founder of Pitso’s Kitchen
Pitso Chauke discovered his passion for African food while exploring its rich history and traditions. During his research, he stumbled upon articles highlighting the lack of popularity and representation of African cuisine in Cape Town. This insight sparked a realization: there was a significant gap in the market and an opportunity to bring the flavors of African cuisine to the city’s vibrant culinary scene.
In 2016, Pitso’s Kitchen was born at the lively Old Biscuit Mill in Woodstock, quickly becoming a favorite for its authentic township dishes. The success of the flagship restaurant led to the opening of a second location at the prestigious V&A Waterfront in December 2020, introducing even more people to the richness of South African cuisine.
“Our most popular dish is pap, tripe, and chakalaka,” says Chauke. “Our menu is proudly South African, featuring traditional favorites alongside lighter meals like steak and wors with salsa, and oxtail and rice served with spinach.”
